______________________________________________________________________________

Time passes. Alba Rohrwacher takes on the role of Laura Morante, while Luigi Lo Cascio, also struggling with the same character, reappears as Silvio Orlando. It will remain for Giovanna Mezzogiorno, Adriano Giannini and Linda Caridi to adapt, more or less lost, to the passage of time. Having said that, it will be they, the famous as well as commendably well-disposed actors, who will imprint themselves in the memory of the spectators at the conclusion of Lacci. It is Daniele Luchetti, following in the footsteps of Domenico Starnone's novel, who dares, on the contrary, to fit in: it was probably not an easy task, in that succession of two or three generations of parents, children, grandparents and grandchildren. They all have to be put in a row, following a theme that is in itself very tormented, that of conjugal coherence.

The story, perhaps optimistically presented at the opening of the last troubled edition of the Venice Film Festival, follows the uncertainties of a successful radio journalist from the 1970s onwards. A Neapolitan, he announces to his wife and two children that he is having an affair with a younger colleague and consequently moves to Rome. As the years go by (forty...) and the film progresses, things do not settle down, quite the contrary.

Denouncing perhaps its previous literary and theatrical temptations, it is not so much that the film tends to delve into the psychology of the characters. Nor is it so much that it relies on the significance assumed progressively by the environmental backgrounds, and by reflection on the social or moral changes that condition them. The film flows on the surface as in a filmed theatre, in the likeness of that mystery, proposed rather confusedly, of the destruction of the domestic nest: a furiously vandalistic act, which should have, if not clarified, refined part of those mysteries, absences and disappearances.
