====================================================================

Even within the microcosm of Italian Swiss cinema something is moving. First work, SINESTESIA was born from the lively, ambitious and free talent of Erik Bernasconi from Bellinzona; and from common sense, from the rigour of Villi Hermann's experience as a producer.Three reasons explain the success of a small film but carried out with enviable determination. The first is that its absolutely normal theme (adultery, the prospect of separation, friendship) is nourished by one of the most stimulating screenplays seen in our part of the world. Four parallel destinies involving four characters: in four episodes that combine in the passing of time, concentric towards the same destiny, but each with its own setting, an autonomous dramaturgical tone. The second reason for satisfaction derived from the film develops on that driving base, the enhancement of the actors: a surrender of splendid spontaneity (next to the affirmed Alessio Boni, see how much reactivity was obtained by the former Swiss miss Melanie Winiger) that you can feel coming from the intimacy of their relationship with the director; as well as from the instinctive truth of the dialogues. With SINESTESIA the cinema of our house seems to finally get rid of one of the boulders that dragged along, the didactic heaviness of the acting, the effort to free itself from stereotypes.Thus, in the third, almost inevitable consequence, the shoulder camera, the very close-ups that take on the physiognomy of a siege, the glimpses of the landscapes of a remarkably expressive Ticino signed by an increasingly mature photographer like Pietro Zürcher (some reservations, perhaps, on the flattened television lighting of certain interiors), the wise music of Zeno Gabaglio and Christian Gilardi, lead Bernasconi's gaze to dig admirably into the apparent fluidity of the observed reality. With naturalness and sensuality, the music gives a feeling of freedom (expressive, and therefore of thought) that manages to change a good thriller between ironic and dramatic into a skirmish that is as stimulating as possible on the deadlines imposed by the Case, on the curious and sometimes cruel games caused by Time.In the footsteps of those ambitious themes that have made the cinema of an Alain Resnais great, to a debut and courageous film you can make notes, from the excessive duration of certain situations to the episode that struggles to fit in with the others (the one, although funny, dedicated to the court of his friend Nigro to Alessio Boni's lover); or some explanation that could be left to the viewer's intuition by letting the backgrounds speak. But if he manages to preserve the uninhibited vivacity of his gaze, the simplicity of realistic observation that knows how to transcend the fantastic and perhaps the poetic, at Erik Bernasconi's cinema it is easy to predict a good future.
