Wim Wenders prosegue (a suo parere, poiché nel frattempo è caduto il Muro...) le sue storie di angeli alla Il cielo sopra Berlino. Francamente, non se ne sentiva un gran bisogno. Cosi, (sarà perché nel frattempo è scomparso il nome di Peter Handke dagli sceneggiatori, oltre che quello di Robby Muller dalla fotografia...?) il film sembra come svuotato. Oltre che di ogni ragione d'essere, a partire da qualsiasi delle sue idee..

Verboso (di una verbosità che fa apparire quella del Godard meno ispirato un limpidissimo vangelo), filmato soprattutto nelle sequenze a colori in modo quasi sciatto, alla disperata ricerca di qualche soluzione formale o a quella laboriosissima di una nota di umorismo, Faraway so close! recupera inutilmente i soliti membri del mitico gruppo. C'è sempre Peter Falk che sbarca (ma non l'aveva già fatto una volta?) dal suo universo USA, c'è Bruno Ganz che fa il pizzaiolo cantando Funicolì - Funicolà, Solveig Dommartin ulteriormente ingrassata che si ostina a fare la trapezista,.

E Nastassia Kinski, che osserva il tutto come fosse capitata li per caso, appollaiata sul cornicione della sua condizione angelica.

Wim Wenders continues (in his opinion, since the Wall has fallen in the meantime...) his stories of angels à la THE SKY ABOVE BERLIN. Frankly, there was no great need for it. Thus, (could it be because in the meantime Peter Handke's name has disappeared from the scriptwriters, as well as Robby Muller's from the photography...?) the film seems as if emptied. As well as of any raison d'être, starting with any of its ideas.

Verbose (of a verbiage that makes that of the less inspired Godard seem like a limpid gospel), filmed above all in the colour sequences in an almost sloppy way, desperately searching for some formal solution or the laborious one of a note of humour, FARAWAY SO CLOSE! uselessly recovers the usual members of the mythical group. There's always Peter Falk disembarking (but hadn't he already done it once?) from his US universe, there's Bruno Ganz playing a pizzaiolo singing Funicolì - Funicolà, Solveig Dommartin further fattened up and insisting on being a trapeze artist.

And Nastassia Kinski, observing the whole thing as if she had just happened to be there, perched on the ledge of her angelic status.
