Considerata la statura dell'autore di DEEP END e di MOONLIGHTING, la clamorosa delusione di Cannes 89. Skolimovski è l'autore di storie contemporanee, asciutte, efficaci anche nel mistero, come sberle ben assestate. Qui (forse perchè, esule da qualche anno in California dove si è visto rifiutare diversi progetti, ha accettato quest'offerta italiana puramente alimentare), adatta Turgheniev, mette i boccoli (e riesce ad imbruttire...) la divina Kinski, pasticcia leccando la foto, e finisce in carnevale a Venezia. Uno spreco.

Given the stature of the author of DEEP END and MOONLIGHTING, the resounding disappointment of Cannes 89. Skolimovski is the author of contemporary stories, dry, effective even in mystery, like well-aimed slaps. Here (perhaps because, having been exiled for a few years in California where he was refused several projects, he accepted this purely alimentary Italian offer), he adapts Turgheniev, puts on curls (and succeeds in greasing...) the divine Kinski, messes up licking the picture, and ends up in a carnival in Venice. A waste.
