IL DIAVOLO VESTE PRADA 2 (THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2)

FOR ENGLISH VERSION SEE BELOW

For the impatient, EMILIA PEREZ tells its story in a nutshell. In Mexico, a brilliant journalist agrees to help a narco-trafficker, determined to retire from the business to carry out a plan he is secretly building. Besides, in the time he has left, getting busy to solve his own trans dream…
Let’s get to know Jacques Audiard. A 72-year-old filmmaker, ready to put himself back into the game, meticulous, some say unscrupulous, inventive, sometimes in his own way. Perhaps because he is the son of Michel, the greatest of French grand publique cinema screenwriters, author of a monstrous amount of scripts and dialogues.
The son’s cinema has never lost certain characteristics of his father’s: the search for a constant quality in invention and originality. Here then is the dazzling priority of a kind of delirious telenovela; more so, of a lavish, only seemingly casual invasion of the musical. Coming to impose, even playfully, its coexistence in a space initially intended for the criminal gang thriller, the Mexican-derived melodrama. Never foul-mouthed, at first surprising, then exciting, finally even moving.
Around a trio of unforgettable actresses who, waiting for the Oscars, have already robbed Cannes and the Golden Globes, Jacques Audiard has as if built a protective net intended to shield them from everything around them. It is then the glares illuminated by the music, the ballets that surprise with their quality of splendid engravings that harken back to the mythical universe of Busby Berkeley.
We tend to forget Jacques Audiard but he has already delighted us over time, from REGARDE LES HOMMES TOMBER in 1994 to SUR MES LEVRES (2001), from the immense UN PROPHETE (2009) to DE ROUILLE ET D’OS (2012), to the most recent, THE SISTERS BROTHERS in 2018, hard to find comparisons in French cinema of our time. One only has to see them again.
